Do it hurt? Empty Do it hurt?

Post  Incy Fri Oct 24, 2008 3:21 pm

Im having bladder sling tightened in two weeks. My uro told me that he can almost guarantee that I won't be able to pee for the first week. They will teach me how to self cath in the hospital before I leave. I am more worried about this than anything else. The foley hurts me and all the uro tests hurt. Is self cathing easy? Does it hurt? I am just so worried about this. Help!

Very scarey prospect! This was my deepest fear and sure enough, came home unable to pee and had to self cath. Nurses in the hospital will teach you. You will begin with a mirror and will learn to visually insert the catheter. You will use surgilube lubricant to make it slippery/smooth. It doesn't actually hurt to insert it but you may have some pain from your OP which will make it daunting at first.Just remember to take your time, breathe and relax, you will get it no problem.
